Hello Cross Country Clubs, Coaches, Athletes, and Parents
Please find attached information about the 2012 Alberta Winter Games (Feb. 9-12), including information on the Winter Games selection race and registration. Please forward this information, with the attachments, to any parents of athletes in your community who might be eligible or interested in participating in the Winter Games. Athletes born in 1996-2001 are eligible to participate in the games. Details about the selection race are outlined in the attachments. Please note that often zones are able to send more than 2-3 athletes per age category because some zones will have no athletes in some of the age groups. This allows for “filling”, which means more than 2-3 kids/category/zone may be able to attend the games. For this reason, please encourage all athletes, within the eligible age group, to attend the selection race on Saturday, December 17th, at Strathcona Wilderness Center (details in the attachment).
Registration for the selection race closes on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 10 pm, so please pass this information along to your club athletes today. If they have any questions, they can contact me via e-mail (laurieh@nait.ca) or phone (780-459-9869).
Please note that we need parent volunteers to help with the Dec 17th selection race (i.e. timers, marshals, registration, etc.) – no previous experience is necessary; we will provide day of training. If you are able to help out, please send me a quick e-mail.
Parents – Please bring/send a plate of home-made treats to the events at Strathcona Wilderness Center on Dec. 17th to contribute to the draw prizes at the end of the races. This worked very well at the Snow Flake Loppet – the kids shared them with their friends and the treats were a big hit!
