Greetings ski parents, coaches, and organizers
As Chief of Event for the 2012 AB Youth Championships I extend an invitation for you and your club to attend what we are hoping will be the biggest and most fun cross country ski event of the year for children born 1998-2001.
Why attend?
Here is the top 10 list of reasons to attend with kids from your club
Reason #10 - travel subsidy for clubs travelling from further than 600km (one way) to Bragg Creek
Reason #9 - hilly trails that have never hosted a provincial level event
Reason #8 - great trail grooming by Kananaskis Country and the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association
Reason #7 - friendly parents and organizers from the XC Bragg Creek ski club
Reason #6 - a low key, low stress event - this will not going to look like the olympics, world championships, nationals, or any 'serious' competition
Reason #5 - a fun saturday night skating party (on ice skates)
Reason #4 - medals to 10th place in each single year, single gender competition category
Reason #3 - a chance to be part of an event that your children will later say "i was there, at the most fun kids cross country event, ever"
Reason #2 - experience a camp style event where kids eat all of their meals together as a provincial ski community, sleep in bunkrooms with kids from their club, travel with their team to and from the event site via parent volunteers from their own clubs,
Reason #1 - develop a provinciial ski community that encourages relationship building with kids from other clubs at an event focused only on cross country skiing where kids attend as part of a team representing their ski club.
I hope this does it - that this is enough to encourage you to attend. I think this will be the highlight of the season for many children this age. I know as well, that this event is a bit of a risk for clubs as there is no tradition in Alberta of attending an event like this where children 'can't wait to be old enough so that they can attend' - but that is what we're aiming for here - to create that type of event - an event that is much more than just a couple of ski races. The fact is there are alot of ski races that kids can attend - but I do not know of another race event that will provide the unique focus of this event on creating a provincial ski community that encourages kids to get to know each other by having them stay in a camp setting, participate in 3 events, and eat all of their meals together in the same dining hall at the same time. This is going to be alot of fun! and I encourage you to take a chance on this event, and plan to attend with kids form your club. We have a chance to build something really special and we would love to have you be a part of it.
I am encouraged to see that three months in advance of this event, there are already over 50 children registered. Our target is twice that much. If every club in alberta brings 5-10 kids - we will have over 150 children attending. We have also been talking with clubs from the NWT and the east kootenays about this event and we will likely have some out of province clubs attending as well - adding to the excitement of this event. We know that some Alberta clubs are planning on bringing 30-50 kids - but we realize that every club still needs to sell the event to their parents - hopefully we can help you with that in some way - please forward this message to all of your club parents who have children born 1998 - 2001 and encourage them to register their children because if there is a unique event that is focused on cross country skiing alone, focused solely on children, open to every interested child (there is no trials event where kids need to qualify for this event - it is truly an open event), focused on building a ski community (not on elite performance), organized by a small club from a small town that has decided to focus their energy on this one event, situated in a community with a trail network at over 1400m where the community is behind this event, and where fun is the focus - this is the event for your club.
Please join us March 2-4 in Bragg Crek.
Early registration deadline - Dec 15 - cost $90 (all inclusive) - https://zone4.ca/onlinereg.asp?id=4072 - registration cost will jump to $150/child after Dec 15, 2011 until Feb 22, 2012

Additional organizational information will be sent to registrants in late december and again in late february.
