STANSKI Devon Ski Grand Prix 2012

STANSKI Families

Devon is hosting a Ski Grand Prix on Feb 5th.    We are encouraging STANSKI families to attend, but realize that not everyone will have the time to travel to Devon to attend this event.  I Can Ski lessons will still be delivered in St. Albert on Feb 5th for those who are not able to attend the Devon event.  If you are helping with the I Can Ski Lessons, please plan to be back in time for the lessons or talk to Richard to make other arrangements.

STANSKI Practice Saturday

We'll plan to meet at Liberton for practice at 2pm.  Bring your skate skis. Also plan to bring your toboggan as we will give you some free time on the hill after our training session.  You might want to change into your winter boots and coat etc.  after skiing if you are going to spend time on the hill.

If there are any parents who can assist with the ongoing work to get the course in shape that would be appreciated.  Bring a shovel. We will plan to move snow while the kids are sledding.

See you Saturday.

STANSKI Practice at Liberton tonight.

We will plan to hold practice at Liberton Hill tonight beginning at 6:30pm.  Bring your skate skis and a headlamp.  Parking is available at the bottom of the hill.

Please thank Pat not only for the work he did with the City to enable us to use the hill but also for his efforts over the past few weeks to get a skate track in shape for tonight. A great deal of work and energy went into our being able to hold a practice at Liberton tonight and Pat was responsible for a large part of that.

More snow will be required before a classic track can be set but we should be able to use the 1k lap skate track which has some very good hills.  Don't forget your water bottle.

See you tonight.

STANSKI Ole Uffda Loppet (English translation: "Ole Uffda")

Time to get back to skiing.

Tomorrow the Ole Uffda Loppet will be held in Camrose beginning at 11:00am and we encourage you to participate.  This is a classic event with distances ranging from 1.25k to 30k. Although the forecast is for warmer weather than we have had this week it will still be cold at the start of the race.  Plan to race with a buff and warm mitts.

If you are planning to ski 10k or longer a base binder warmed into your kick zone and then corked smooth will help hold your wax.  Follow that with 3 or 4 layers of a cold weather kick wax (blue or green).

Sign up online at Zone4 today or in person tomorrow before the race.

If you are not planning to go to Camrose, Pat is looking for some volunteers to help to get the Liberton trail in shape.  He is planning to be at Liberton at 2pm tomorrow.  Pat would be grateful to anyone with a shovel (or snow blower) who can help tomorrow.  The tobogganing hill is in great shape so bring your kids.

Thanks

Ward

STANSKI Practice tomorrow, (Wednesday)

Our practice at Servus on Monday was very well attended and a great success.  Unfortunately, we were advised by staff after our work out that we would not be able to train again as a group using either the running track or the track above the performance rink.

We have explored some other options with Servus but it does not appear that we will be able to hold a formal practice tomorrow.  I believe that children will be permitted to run on the track with parents but not a coach.  Officially we will not have a practice tomorrow.  However, some of us are planning to use the facility tomorrow on a family basis.  I know my kids will be looking for friends to play with in the pool or gym after a short run.  Plan to come for a workout if you can.

STANSKI Practice Monday and Wednesday at Servus Place

With the cold weather we will move indoors for practice this week.  We'll plan to meet at the running track  at Servus Place at 6:30pm both tonight and Wed.  If you do not have indoor runners be sure to clean off the soles of your shoes before using the track. We want to keep staff at Servus happy so they welcome us back in the future.

A wrist band must be purchased. Just pay for the wrist band as you normally would to use the facility.  If you announce you are with a group that may create confusion.  We have permission to use the track as a group but it took a few phone calls after some mixed messages to accomplish that.  We want to keep things as uncomplicated as possible. Parents are encouraged to participate .

We'll set aside some time at the end of practice for the kids to have fun in either the gym or the pool-whatever they choose.  You will have full access to the facility so you might as well get your money's worth.

See you tonight.

Ward
